Three areas deserve particular attention when selecting turf for pets.
| Parameter | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Fiber material | PE and PP are commonly used and generally have low water absorption, but their chemical resistance can vary by formulation |
| Water permeability | Helps determine how efficiently rinse water can pass through the turf |
| Backing and adhesive chemical compatibility | Important when the turf is exposed repeatedly to urine, water and cleaning products |
Water permeability should be verified using the applicable test method
Artificial turf products can report permeability in units such as L/(m²·h), but the numerical result should always be evaluated together with the relevant test method and product specification.
There is no single permeability value that guarantees a particular urine-cleaning or odor-removal result.
For a pet facility, it is useful to ask the manufacturer for:
- Water-permeability test results
- Backing construction information
- Recommended cleaning products
- Chemical compatibility information
- Warranty limitations related to cleaning chemicals
