Visual checks are useful, but technical test data is still essential. Buyers should request third-party test reports and review the most important indicators.
4.1 Wear and Weather Resistance
Wear resistance is one of the most important indicators of turf lifespan. For high-quality non-infill turf, ASTM D3884 wear testing values above 6,000 cycles can be used as a strong reference. Vivaturf sports-grade systems are commonly designed around 6,500 cycles as a high-performance benchmark.
UV resistance is also critical for outdoor fields. Many basic standards reference around 3,000 hours of UV aging, while high-quality systems can reach around 6,000 hours to support longer outdoor exposure.
4.2 Yarn Anchoring and Structural Stability
Tuft pull-out force is more meaningful than density alone. A strong non-infill turf should have solid yarn anchoring. For many sports-grade systems, a tuft pull-out force of ≥50 N is an important performance reference. Higher-level certified sports fields may require even stronger yarn anchoring.
Yarn tensile strength is another key factor. High-quality yarns may reach ≥120 N, helping reduce breakage during long-term use.
4.3 Sports Performance
For sports fields, impact absorption and vertical deformation directly affect player safety and comfort.
Depending on field type and applicable standards, high-quality systems may target impact absorption around 55%–65% and controlled vertical deformation within a suitable range. Vivaturf sports systems are often designed around 55%–61% impact absorption and approximately 5–8 mm vertical deformation, balancing cushioning with stable footing.
A low-quality product may fail to provide sufficient impact absorption, resulting in a hard surface and increased joint stress.
4.4 Environmental Safety
A high-quality non-infill turf should comply with relevant safety and environmental requirements. Buyers should check for heavy metals, TVOC, odor, and harmful volatile substances.
Vivaturf non-infill turf is designed with low-emission, low-odor material systems and avoids loose rubber granules and sand infill. This helps reduce dust, infill migration, and potential microplastic dispersion from loose infill materials.
