This is an area where caution is important.
Products containing sodium hypochlorite, strong acids, strong alkalis or aggressive oxidizing chemicals should not be used routinely unless the turf manufacturer specifically confirms compatibility.
Repeated exposure to incompatible chemicals may affect:
- Fiber color
- Polymer properties
- Backing
- Adhesive
- Tuft retention
- Long-term appearance
The fact that a chemical can disinfect a hard floor does not mean it is appropriate for synthetic turf.
A safer approach
Before using a new cleaning product:
- Check the turf manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
- Check the cleaner’s intended application.
- Test it on a small, inconspicuous area if permitted.
- Follow the recommended concentration.
- Rinse thoroughly when required.
- Keep pets away from the area according to the cleaner manufacturer’s safety instructions.
