One potential maintenance advantage of a non-infill system is the absence of loose granular infill.
With an infilled turf system, urine can interact with the infill layer, making flushing and residue management more complicated depending on the construction.
A non-infill system can simplify routine surface rinsing because there is no loose granular infill layer to redistribute during cleaning.
However, this should not be interpreted as “non-infill turf is odor-free” or “non-infill turf never retains urine.”
Urine can still accumulate around:
- Fiber roots
- Backing
- Seams
- Low spots
- Drainage openings
- Poorly drained foundation areas
Proper maintenance and drainage remain essential.
