Pet urine is one of the most common maintenance concerns for artificial turf used in backyards, pet areas, dog parks, balconies, terraces and residential landscapes.
The most effective approach is generally prompt rinsing, dilution, appropriate enzymatic treatment, thorough drainage and adequate drying.
Because non-infill artificial turf does not contain loose silica sand or rubber infill, urine is not retained within a granular infill layer. This can simplify routine rinsing. However, urine and its residues can still remain around the fibers, backing, seams and drainage system if the surface is not cleaned properly.
A good maintenance routine is therefore not simply about removing visible stains. It should also address odor-causing residues and the drainage pathway.
