Is Non-Infill Artificial Turf Better Than Natural Grass for a Rooftop?
The comparison depends on what the project is trying to achieve.
Natural grass requires soil or a dedicated growing medium, irrigation, drainage and ongoing horticultural maintenance. An artificial turf system can provide a green visual surface without requiring the same type of growing medium or routine mowing.
However, artificial turf does not solve structural or waterproofing issues automatically.
For a rooftop project, the more useful question is:
Can the complete artificial-turf system satisfy the roof’s structural, waterproofing, drainage and wind requirements?
If the answer is yes, non-infill turf can be a practical rooftop landscaping option.
